Timoty John Sarris
Tenor
Greece
From a child his mother Lula, an inspiring actress and mezzo soprano, encouraged his interest in the arts. She taught him to play the piano and later, at the teenager's insistence, arranged for him to take voice lessons. When the tenor Anastasios Vrenios first heard him sing he told him that he had the makings of a operatic career. With his encouragement and guidance he auditioned for tenor George Shirley, who recommended that he be given a full scholarship to continue his musical studies at the University of Maryland.
Later, while concentrating on opera techniques at the Curtis Institute of Music, he was cast by Gian Carlo Menotti to sing one of the leads in his opera, Amelia al Ballo in a performance that marked the 50th anniversary of the works first presentation at Philadelphia's Academy of Music. After graduating ,he was invited to apprentice with the San Francisco Opera. This provided him with an invaluable professional experience both on their main stage and in their tour company. While making the transition from baritone to tenor he sang with the chorus of the Metropolitan Opera.
It was during the off-season that he traveled to Italy where Tim and his beautiful and gifted wife, Cecilia Finotti met and currently reside, in Venice.
With project "Amormio" he and Cecilia were awarded first prize in the Grand Prize international music competition, London edition.
